My own planner intervention

Hi!

Last time I uploaded a simple version of my planner for 2017. Here I present you my personal version. I drew over the margins with different markers, pencils and gel pens to make it more fun. Why I did that? Because is more fun. I like to personalize my stuff, make them unique. I like to doodle, to be creative…. Well I want to share it with you. May be you like my version and want to use it, please be my guest. Or you get the idea and want to do your own margins.

New Hobby… or obsession?

Hi!

I always was a little obsessive with my planner, for years I use this little friend…

old planner

Its size is almost A6 pages. One day per page and it has different sections… every year I buy the refill and continue using it. It was expensive but it was perfect for my personal life.

Last year I start making my own planner using different templates from internet. Some of them were nice, and worked for me, but (and there’s always a but)  they weren’t made for me. So, I started doing my own templates, and well, you know, I understand my needs, well, after some errors….

All this is to tell you that I’m making my own and, I hope complete. I’m from Argentina, and we speak Spanish, so I’m presenting you two versions, Spanish and English. Feel free to use them however you want.

Today I’m uploading a simple month layout (each month in two pages). Here’s a preview…

Art supply review:

For painting the second one I use the Watercolour markers from Winsor & Newton. They come in 36 colours, have two nibs (brush and a round one for details) I think that they are a great idea for watercolour on the go. They mix really good, Here is a little test I made in watercolour paper.

See you soon (I hope)!

These holidays

Hi! Happy New Year!!!!

I finished the 2015 drawing. I made a mandala for Christmas, you can see two versions, painted and not. Also made a line work that you can paint whatever you want, my husband is painting it in black and white, I painted one with colors and white… I know, this is tipically  a classroom project, but why all the fun is for children! I think that if you like to do something childish and fun like drawing, painting or even coloring pages YOU DON’T NEED PERMISSION and it helps release stress.

I’m still here – painting and drawing

Hi!

I’m still here. These past months were chaotic. I travel for work, attended a chemistry congress and closed the university semester. In the meanwhile i painted to distract me. Also I arrange my 2016 planner, I made it myself using free printable founded in pinterest (You can follow my planners board, if you want).

These are some of my last works. In some of them you can see future works. We are in spring/summer now so I will have more time (cross your fingers).

A painting journey

Hello!

Today we’re going to talk about something different, Wood Painting. Yes, These past weeks I was painting boxes, trays and even a desktop organizer made in MDF. You know, MDF is ugly, really dull but cheap and pretty sturdy, so a good choice to use for small pieces or things with no heavy use. It’s better than cardboard if you are going to take the box around. So I found this shop in Buenos Aires that has everything you want in MDF and bought a couple of things to start practicing.

The first thing I bought was a tray about 16x34cm (6,25×13,25in) for my pencils but found that they are longer so I had to come back to the store and buy these boxes of 20x30x6 cm (8x12x2,25 in) and they are perfect. Meanwhile my mother wants some pencil-cases for her shop so, i have more practice!!

Here are the before photos:

Both were painted with acrylic base, one Pink and the other White and violet. For the name and the doodle  i used kurecolor black and purple marker, they have alcohol ink and then I used satin varnish to protect the pieces.

Also I painted a doll house for a little girl (friend’s Daughter) called Lucia, It was her 8th birthday and I wanted it to be special, so here is a photo of the finished house with furniture (also painted).

painted doll house

She loves it. The interior is Bubble gum pink and the exterior is violet. Her favorites colors. I also made a mattress for the bed and a comforter, both violet. Later I gave her a cradle for her baby doll.

What else…. I painted a lot of boxes and cookies boxes and boxes for bags and so on….

After you paint your box, dolls house, or whatever you have to protect it with varnish, there are three types of varnish: mate, satin and bright. I use satin and bright, they give a really nice finish to the piece and make the color pop!. I noticed that the varnished pieces tended to stuck each other and i had to use force to separate them. The tip I learn to avoid this is to use wax (the typical floor wax or neutral wax) and voila! they never again  glued together. I used this trick with both varnish and worked perfectly. You have to be careful and not put a great excess of wax on the piece. The floor wax has odor   but It fades in a day or two.

Other trick you must to know is that the layers of acrylic and varnish have they own thickness. So when you are painting moving parts that must fit together take in account this. For example, when painting a box with slicing top you have to make sure that the top still fit after painting and varnish. You have to sand the edges to accommodate the extra thickness.

One thing that is important when you are painting with any type of acrylic is that the acrylics mix very well when wet but they are really bad covering other colors. So avoid spots all you can and be very fussy about your place and take all the time it need to finish one color before start the next one. Also the brushes are very sensitive to the acrylic so you must clean them right after use. Have in mind that acrylics are water soluble while wet but very water resistant once they dry. They also tend to dry fast, you can retard this with the use of varnish or medium, bt be careful because they also dilute the pigments in the acrylic and maybe you end needing more layers to obtain the same tone and opacity.

Next time I’ll show you the biggest project I made this past month in mdf. I (with my husband and Damian help) textured and  paint Damian’s Fort. It was really funny to do and the results worth the time invested. Photos soon.

See you soon!

I’m still drawing and painting

Hi! Did you miss me? I certainly miss writing. These past months were really busy for me. As I told you I’m a chemist and I’m starting my PhD so I have to assist to different courses and my bosses didn’t have better idea than make an intensive one… so I was living practically at work and reading a lot of papers and books.  That’s why I disappear this time.

I painted a lot these past months, and I have a large post about it but It is unfinished. I promise to publish it soon, with a lot of tips I learned.

This post is for show you a bunch of old work of mine that I like and I didn’t publish yet. This way you don’t miss me so much!!

Hope you like them and see you soon!

New Drawings

Hi! As I told you last time this past week I was in vacation!!!! I spent this time painting wooden  boxes (post coming soon) and drawing a little. Here are the results!

linedsquares_20150710

diagonal_20150704

These two are patterns that I don’t see normally used in mandalas or tangles but I think they are gorgeous  and wanted to make a full page of them to see how nice they are, so I hope that you think the same and start to use them! They are very detailed and required a lot of time each page.

And I missed doing compositions so here is a mandala (My husband’s son is going to paint it) and a tangle just for the fun!

mandala1183_20150711 Composition_20150711

As usual all was made with my rotrings and alcohol ink markers (kurecolor and copics).

Well that’s all for now, hope you like it.

see you soon

More patterns

Hi!! I’m back with more patterns and practices. As i told you last time is nice to fill the pages with the same pattern, for me is relaxing. I’m with the semester’s end rush and have little time for drawing so I end up sitting in my drawing table with a glass of wine and a marker for a couple of minutes each time.

I hope to have the time to make a more complex drawing this week. And I have some vacation time coming in July so I would be uploading some works soon.

In the meanwhile  I was brainstorming  how to organize my art supplies and next time I will show you my first attempt at wood painting

So Enjoy  the patterns and see you soon

Some practice, patterns and fun

Hi again! These past weeks I was super busy so I couldn’t write but this doesn’t mean i didn’t draw. I used this time to make pages (A4 size) of single patterns, why? simple, practice and to see how they look in bulk. Sometimes you have this vision of the pattern, but to learn it you just use a 3 x 3 block, and you can lose the visual effect of the pattern. On the other side I can practice my drawing skills. One thing I have learned since drawing mandalas is that drawing is a skill you can master, only needs time and patience… So it’s Difficult for adults, we usually don’t have hours and want results immediately… So my advice don’t lose your calm, start simple and do a lot of practice, after a time you will notice the difference between your first drawings and your newest ones. That’s why the tutors always recommend the use of journals or sketchbooks so you can look them as timeline.

I talk and lose my focus! What I want to share with you today are my last pages of patterns, I like them and hope you like them too.

There’s more coming soon
